Tracking dog team sent in to the area, mising male picked are very quickly and returned to road.

Two day walkers needing assistance on Mayor Island

A couple of gentlemen have headed out on a day walk clockwise around Mayor Island, they called Police at 1545hrs saying they were misplaced and not sure they they could make it back to there starting point at South East Bay tonight.

A tracking team and dog were sent by helicopter to start searching a track north of the lakes where the trampers thought they were.

After dark the helicopter flew over the tracks with night vision and saw the cellphone screen of the missing party and guided the ground team to them.

Two field teams were on standby at the Tauranga Station but were not required to enter the field.
